A Brand That Matches What You Actually Do. A Website to Prove It.
You’re good at what you do. You have the training, the years, the results, and the clients to prove it. But your brand is telling an older, thinner version of the story.
People land on your website and don’t quite understand what makes your work different. You get grouped with people doing something adjacent to what you do. You spend the first ten minutes of a call explaining the part your website should have made obvious before they ever booked it.
The problem isn’t necessarily that your brand looks bad.
It’s that the surface no longer corresponds to what’s underneath.
That correspondence is the work.
By the time a design file opens, we already know what the brand needs to say.
I begin by looking closely at what already exists: your work, your customers, the language they use about you, the ideas you return to, the distinctions you make instinctively, and the parts of your value you’ve become too close to see.
Then we build from there. The strategy establishes the position. The position establishes the language. The language establishes the visual world. And only then do we build the website.
This is a complete strategy, identity, messaging, and website engagement for established founders whose businesses have moved past the brand that got them here.
Before I design anything, I need to understand what I’m designing around. We’ll clarify:
01
Once the strategy is settled, we translate it into form. Your visual identity may include:
02
We’ll determine what each page needs to accomplish, what needs to be said first, what deserves more room, and what has been taking up space without doing any real work.
Depending on the project, this can include:
03
Then I build the site. Not a visual shell waiting for strategy to be poured into it later. The site is the final expression of everything we’ve already established.
Your website includes:
04
There’s a drawing instrument from 1806 called a camera lucida. It’s a small prism that attaches to a drawing board. When the artist looks through it, the subject appears to sit directly on the paper beneath her hand.
The instrument doesn’t draw the picture. It puts the subject within reach, at true proportion. That is the premise behind my process. Your brand doesn’t need an invented personality laid over it. It needs someone willing to look closely enough at what’s already there to represent it accurately.
The work happens in three phases.
We start by paying attention before anyone has an opinion. You and I have a long recorded conversation that feels closer to an interview than an onboarding call.
I’m listening for the sentence you say sideways. The distinction you make without realizing it. The thing you’ve explained to clients a hundred times and never thought to put on your homepage.
Then I speak with three to five of your customers. Their language matters. They’ve experienced the value of your work from the other side, which means they often have words for it that you don’t.
Those conversations are transcribed, tagged, and studied for patterns. We build from evidence.
Now we draw what has been made visible.
First, your visual identity. Then, your website.
The work becomes increasingly tangible, but the hardest decisions have already been made.
We aren’t staring at seventeen typefaces trying to decide which one “feels like you.”
We know what we’re looking for.
Someone reads your homepage and understands what you do before the call.
The right clients inquire already knowing why they want you.
Your prices and the way you present yourself stop feeling like they belong to two different businesses.
And when your business changes again, you have enough clarity underneath the surface to know what should change with it.
That is what I want to hand you
The full Camera Lucida process typically unfolds over three to four months.
I take a small number of commissions at a time because this work depends on attention. You won’t be moving through an agency pipeline or handed from strategist to designer to developer.
I’m the person listening in the interviews. I’m the person building the Plate. I’m the person making the design decisions. I’m the person building the site.
Signature Brand & Website Commission
Investment begins at $15,000. Payment plans are available.
The engagement includes brand strategy, key messaging, visual identity, website messaging and copy support, custom website design, and Showit development.
If the full website engagement isn’t what your business needs yet, strategy is also available as a standalone commission.
And you’re willing to let strategy come before design, even when you are very ready to see the pretty part.
You want someone who will make a recommendation and stand behind it.
You’ve already tried fixing the visuals and discovered that the problem survived the redesign.
Your business is established enough that there is something real to uncover.
You’re tired of being compared with people whose work looks similar from the outside but operates very differently underneath.
Your expertise has developed faster than your brand has.
You have customers whose experience of your work can inform the strategy.
Your brand should be able to carry it.
If you’re ready for a brand and website that make the caliber of your work apparent before you enter the room, tell me what you’re building.
